Certificate II in Introductory Vocational Education


Course overview
This course has been structured to provide a range of pathways for students, based on their aspirations and interests.  The incorporation of units of competence from nationally endorsed Training Packages provides maximum flexibility for students wishing to pursue a specific vocational pathway.

Content

Preparing for employment
Covers the skills and knowledge required to prepare a person to perform effectively in a work environment, looking at skills, abilities, developing a resume, finding a job, applying for a job and winning the job

Operate a personal computer
Learn to start up a personal computer or business terminal, navigate the desktop and use a range of basic functions

Producing complex workplace documents
Plan, draft and review a basic document before final version, writing business documents for print, such as memo’s, letters, email messages and summaries of information for reports

Apply mathematical skills to consumer situations
Basic maths for work situations, such as petty cash, floats and general mathematical equations, use of a calculator and fractions

Deal with conflict situations
Learning to deal with conflict in the workplace and all about turning a Negative into a Positive.

Communicating in the workplace
Skills and knowledge required to communicate in the workplace.  Covers gathering, conveying and receiving information

Use business equipment
Operating business equipment, undertaking routine maintenance and reporting faults to the appropriate person

Personal organisation
Skills and knowledge necessary to identify and document current skills and plan future skills development under the guidance of an appropriate adviser.

Individual reading and writing
Basic reading and writing skills to enable the student to gather, organise and apply workplace information in the context of an organisation's work processes and information management systems.

Deliver a service to customers

Covers the skills and knowledge required to identify customer needs and provide a service to customers within a prescribed framework.

Working in teams and groups
Covers the skills and knowledge required to work in a group environment such as promoting team commitment and cooperation and supporting team members.

Process and maintain workplace information
On completion the student will know how to collect, process, store and maintain workplace information and its systems.  It includes the maintenance of filing and record systems.

Participate in environmental work practices
Covers the identification and application of environmental policies and procedures in the workplace.  Those who have worked under instruction but were not generally responsible furthers would be advised to undertake this unit.

Basic science knowledge for those interested in pursuing a similar vocation.

Maintaining a safe workplace
General OHS requirements in business organisations and is essential for employees without managerial or supervisory responsibilities.
