Course overview
Employees with this qualification would include OHS Practitioners, OHS Supervisors and Managers at both middle and senior levels.  The units cover a range of OHS functions relative to workplace roles, responsibilities and work levels.

Content

Contribute to the implementation of a systematic approach to managing OHS
Obtain the knowledge and skills required to effectively contribute to the application of a systematic approach to managing OHS, to ensure that the workplace is, as far as practicable, safe and without risks to the health of employees and others.

Contribute to the implementation of the OHS consultation process
Obtain the knowledge and skills required to effectively contribute to the promotion of consultative arrangements in the workplace by communicating, influencing and consulting as part of a systematic approach to managing OHS.

Identify hazards and assess OHS risks
Obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to identify hazards and assess risks using developed processes and tools. This unit also introduces basic incident analysis as an important skill underlying incident investigation.

Contribute to the implementation of strategies to control OHS risk
Obtain the knowledge and skills of processes and techniques necessary, which contribute to the implementation of strategies to control OHS risk. You will also acquire knowledge and understanding of the various interactions between people and their activities, equipment, and the organisation’s environment, work systems, and worplace changes, when controlling OHS risks.

Develop work priorities
Covers the skills and knowledge required to plan own work schedules, monitor and obtain feedback on work performance and development.

Promote innovation and change
This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to promote the use and implementation of innovative work practices to effect change in the workplace.

Identify risk and apply risk management processes
Identify risks and apply established risk management processes to a subset of the organisation's operations that are within the person's own work responsibilities and area of operation.

Manage projects
In this unit you will cover the management of a straightforward project or a section of a larger project. It focuses on the application of project management skills and the requirement to meet timelines, quality standards, budgetary limits and other requirements set for the project.

Assist with compliance with OHS and other relevant laws
On successful completion of this unit you should be able to provide advice regarding the OHS legislative responsibilities of an OHS practitioner, company director, manager, supervisor and employee. You will apply the legal and regulatory framework of OHS in order to provide advice in respect to consultation, training, the application of risk management processes to hazards and the maintenance of OHS records within your work environment.
